SCAI-WIN CHIP Fellowship Application

SCAI-Women in Innovations (WIN)
CHIP Fellowship Opportunity

With recent advances in PCI technology and techniques, there is a critical need for interventional cardiology specialists dedicated to offering minimally invasive percutaneous solutions to patients with complex coronary anatomy, severe co-morbidities, and/or poor hemodynamics.

SCAI Women in INnovations (SCAI-WIN) is offering a CHIP Fellowship Grant for the 2025-26 academic year (July 2025 - June 2026).

Eligibility Requirements

The SCAI-WIN Chip Fellowship is open to interventional cardiology fellows or practicing interventional cardiologists interested in pursuing an additional year of advanced training (beyond traditional IC fellowships) focusing on CHIP (Complex and high-risk interventional procedures) and Percutaneous MCS (mechanical circulatory support) training in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Applicants must be in or have completed an interventional cardiology fellowship within the past five years, be board eligible or board certified for interventional cardiology, and have employment authorization to work in the US at the start of the Fellowship July 1, 2025.

The successful recipient may apply this fellowship fund to a CHIP Interventional Training Program with a US based cardiac catheterization laboratory treating over 250 complex coronary cases per year with access to the following advanced procedures and technology:
  • Chronic total occlusion (CTO) procedures;
  • Calcific disease with access to atherectomy, including rotational atherectomy
  • Complex imaging and physiology (IVUS, OCT, FFR, resting indices)
  • Percutaneous MCS (mechanical circulatory support) in the cardiac catheterization laboratory
Funding applies to 12-month fellowship starting in July 2025 and is provided to the training institution for $115,000. In addition to the funding, the recipient will also receive an invitation along with financial support to attend SCAI's Scientific Sessions Meeting in May 2025 (to walk the stage and accept the award of the Fellowship from the SCAI President) and to participate at the SCAI Fellows Meeting in December 2025 and Scientific Sessions Meeting in May 2026. Attendance at the SCAI Scientific Sessions in May 2025 is Mandatory.

Timing

The deadline to submit is September 18, 2024. SCAI's selection committee will review applications and notify the recipient by early October 2024. If for any reason, the top candidate is unable to accept the award, the second top candidate will be notified by November 13, 2024.

The 2025-2026 SCAI-WIN CHIP fellow will be announced by SCAI Scientific Sessions 2025.
