Why do we ask for personal information?

We collect personal and sensitive information about you to support you around your accommodation needs. We will also ask for your feedback on the service. We use this information to:

• Help assess whether you’re suitable for Nightstop
• Ensure it’s safe for you and for our volunteers
• Carry out enquiries about past or current offending 
• Monitor trends about who uses Nightstop
• Tell our funders about who uses the service and what difference it’s making
• Make improvements to our service 

The legal basis on which we process your data in these circumstances is our ‘legitimate interest’ to provide you with a safe and effective service. Because we ask for information such as your race, religion, ethnicity and health we also ask for your consent. 

Collecting and sharing your data 

We collect your data directly from you as well as from:

• People identified on your Sussex Nightstop referral form 
• The agency that has referred you e.g. YAC housing team or Children’s Services 
• The local Community Safety Team and Sussex Police or, if you are under 18 yrs the Youth Offending Team - (under Section115 Crime and Disorder Act 1998 – Disclosure of information)
• Other third-party organisations in accordance with the law and for which you’ve provided consent

We share information on a need-to-know basis with the above agencies and authorised Sussex Nightstop staff and volunteers for the purposes of processing your application to Nightstop and managing a safe stay whilst you are with us. 

Keeping your information safe

We store your information securely and only Sussex Nightstop people who have permission can access your personal data. We keep your data in accordance with our data retention policy.
